Wind Creek #4 with the Akins

Finally! Our first-ever camping trip with the Akins! We have talked about it and even had a scheduled trip get postponed, but now all the discussion came to fruition. Wind Creek State Park was our choice, not only because it is a great location but also because MLK weekend in Alabama was projected to be really cold. Fortunately by moving southeast for our campsite we were able to dodge the rain and briefly hold off the subsequent cold front.

The Akins were able to make it down to the site on Friday evening and enjoy the weather before it turned sour. We stayed behind for Carter’s basketball game Saturday morning. Once it was finished Kelly took the kids down in the van so the fun could begin, and I loaded everything up for the weekend.

The first day/night was great! The kids played and played and played while the grown-ups lounged. The campground was maybe 10% full so it was great to let the kids run around free and enjoy themselves. They were able to be a little adventurous and stretch their boundaries a tad. We of course also had great food with those awesome cracker/pimento/wickle/Conecuh sausage/mustard things (still not sure what they are called) as well as tacos and s’mores to end the night. We also had a classic game of football in the field next to the playground that was a lot of fun, especially for me and Tim because we got to be the QBs and watch everyone else run around. :)

The plan for day two was to hang out again, watch the NFL playoff games, and then for us to stay one more night while the Akins headed home. Unfortunately Addie got sick over night and the Akins had to leave around lunch. Ty stayed with us for the rest of the day, which was good because Kelly and I had decided to head home a night earlier. The temps were dropping to 25 and wind was expected, so we figured it would be best to get on back and be at home. Gina and Amelia were able to come visit during the day and the kids continued to play and have a blast.
It's going to be such a sad day when they replace this see-saw!

All in all, it was a lot of fun and we look forward to another trip with the Akins!
